What's involved with timing the injector pump on the Doosan engines? We have a T770 which got contaminated fuel Injectors are on order but we suspect the injection pump may be bad as well. Before we pull it we want to make sure what is needed.

All I know about this in general is the timing cover will need to be pulled off and you will see marks on the crank, cam, and injection pump all have to be lined up before disassembly so reassembly is easy. other methods might be but not known to me.

Im sure you figured out that the common rail pump does not need to be timed. The pump only pressurizes the fuel rail and the injectors are electronically fired and timed by the ECU.

Common rail pumps do have to be timed! The pump is like a mini, opposing 2 cylinder motor. There are 4 injectors, they time the pump so when it's creating the most pressure on one of the strokes of the pump it coincides with when one of the injectors is firing. That way the injector is getting the most pressure the pump can produce right at the same time a it injects. If it's not timed the injectors will be getting pressure created when the pump is in the middle of a stroke and not top dead center at its highest pressure produced. Make sense?
