I picked up a 2010 Terex skid steer at auction for a pretty good price with the full understanding it was underpowered and it runs fine. From the engine sticker, it looks like a Perkins 404 engine but I think it's off a generator, the engine sticker identifies it as engine family 4H3XL2 22L84 and HP32/1700 and Power 23KW at 1700 RPM. There's also some dickery with the exhaust as it looks like they grabbed a few spares and welded them together to make it fit.

Is there any advice on what I can do to, if anything, to increase the output?

Are these reasonable ideas?
  1. Is it possible to install the after-market 404D Turbo kit
  2. Adjust the fuel flow
Or is it more trouble than it's worth?

I can include photos if anyone is interested in digging a little deeper.

Any advice would be of great help as I live in a very rural area and don't have local access to diesel mechanics.

Thanks

I just got a Terex 70 at auction.
Pump was broken off motor since skid plate is paper thin aluminum.

I changed a Connecting rod was also bent from hydraulic Lock .
That Perkins motor is a Shubara ? Japan used by CAT and many other companies.
I welded the pump casting and made a new heavy steel skid plate to protect pump underneath.
Machine is good for small light work not heavy stuff.
My brother flipped it over forwards carrying gravel down a slope for footings .
It is tippy over front with full bucket ( bent connecting rod from motor oil into intake when upside down lol )
I like it for tiny tight jobs cool little machine.
It has aux lines with 3 fittings to run accessories.

A turbo on that would not be worth it. Just tune injection pump to get proper Horsepower. Pump head comes out of block easy . Generator motor set at 1750rpm governor speed can be reset for 2500 rpm easy .

Thanks for your reply. Adjusting the governor makes sense but I've never done it before as I don't have a lot of mechanical experience. So far I've taught myself quite a bit and am up for the challenge. Are there any website, videos, books, links you can suggest to walk me through it?
