Anyone know when did omc change its paint color from green to yellow. I have a 440 that has green under the yellow. Both look factory. Doesn't look as if there were decals on it when it was green unless they placed the same stickers exactly over the old ones. Also my serial number plate isn't readable. Can the info be found elsewhere

I am pretty sure the color, wasn't really changed as to, it came down to what color was wanted when the machine was ordered!

you can order a machine from most brands, in MANY different than standard colors, if your willing to order and pay the difference!
I have friends that have had factory Orange, green, blue black, bobcats, over there typical white
and have Cats machine sin several colors as well
same with NH< yellow, blue, black and so on!
so, it really comes down to what the spec's where when it was ordered over , any certain YR change IMO!

i believe the only ones that were originally green were the the first models built in the 60's. the 440 was built from
1974-1980 if its john deere green it may have been a jd as they built for them. if not maybe the primer
they used was a green color

They definitely came in the lighter green color, we bought a brand new one in the mid seventies, a few years later they went to yellow, I can't pinpoint the exact year. But I am searching for that info

models 1000 1200 & 1200a were built from 1965 to 1976 they were green, the 1700 was built from1968 to 1979 it had both colors yellow & green , they started building the 310 in 1976 to 1980 and they also had both colors, 330 was built from 1972 to 1977 both colors, 440 was built from 1974 to 1980 both colors also. my guess would be around 1977
because the 320 mustang was built from 1977 to 1981 & it was always yellow

My 1200 is green and was bought used by my grandfather around 1977. The first pictures we have of it are in the blizzard of '78, and it was already a bit rusty. I haven't been able to identify what year it was made, but does Firefighter have a knowledge of the ever-elusive serial number dates? If so, having some info on the forum here would be greatly appreciated!

im not sure how to determine those older models by serial number or if they even had a sequence to it, i would have to say mustang could possibly tell you, but the company changed hands several times and my guess is some of that info my have been lost

I am sure there was a sequence, but the info you just provided is the same I hear everywhere. Thanks.

I finally found some info on my machine's manufacture date. On the back of the hour meter, is 9-73. The paint markings convince me it is original. Perhaps this is a way we can date these machines. My serial number is 9009.
