no drive to left wheels

I just had to replace the drive coupler/ u joint on my early 2000 553. I now have a new problem. I have no power to the left wheels. I checked the chains. Slightly loose but on. Where do I go next. I suspect the drive to the left side which is between the wheels and acessable from the outside. How di I check it and do you think this is the problem. Please help I need to get this thing running again

The normal check is to swap the drive motors and see if the problem follows the motor.
