I'm trying to help my husband get information about his 985 NH skid steer. Unfortunately the dealership has long gone out of business and (I'm sorry to say) that we haven't kept in contact with any of the sales people we knew.

you do not need to talk to folks at the dealer you got the machine from, any NH dealer can help you if, you don;t find help online,
one of the best things you can have for any machine is what is called a service manual, they can be had online in many forms from downloadable ones to hard copies, there worth having, and will have about every thing one could need in information on repairs!
Might be worth looking for one for your husband if he doesn;t have one already, and I mean SERVICE manual, not owbners manual! there two different things
