evening guys,
got the messed up bearing replaced and working fine. drained the hyd fluid and it looked milky. there is a sticker inside the machine saying to use dextron trans fluid ...i guess that's what they may have been using in 1970's? would it hurt to use modern day hyd fluid for any reason?
thanks,
steve

I'm an auto repair shop manager.. My advice is: use what the manufacturer recommends unless you're sure.
There's a difference between dextron ATF and hydraulic fluid, now if it said use 10w30 motor oil I'd say go ahead and use the hydraulic fluid...but not sure about switching from ATF. The price should be close.. maybe even less if you find 5 gallon buckets.
Might be a good idea to call the nearest New Holland heavy equipment dealer and ask.
Good luck, Tim
