Hydraulic top up

Hi Since I just recently bought my 94 753, I dont know what kind of oil was used in the hydraulic system by the previous owner. The manual says to use 5w30 in my current climate conditions. Can I just top up? What if a different type of oil was used? The manual doesnt mention actual hydraulic oil. Is that a NoNo and why? Thanks

Hydraulic oil is too thin. Just use standard car engine oil, there is no problem topping it up. Even if its not the exact same grade it will be fine. I run 15W40 or 20W50, but its warm over here and its very rare to get below 0C
