I am the guy with the low hour rust bucket. The idle seems too high, should be 1200 RPM, but not sure how to measure that. This has a digital hour meter, is there a method to obtain the RPMs from that? Thinking of painting a mark on the drive belt then taking a video of that? Any help is appreciated.

Is the digital display on the left or right? if it's on the left then no, you can't read the RPM.
You can buy a cheap laser tacho to measure teh speed and adjust it on the engine.
The engine should be factory set, open the back door and ensure when throttled right back that the stopper hits the adjustment screw. Look near the injector pump, the govenor arm is there with the throttle linkage. You will see stoppers with wire and lead crimps, these are the factory set parts. If it's not hitting the end, it could be a simple adjustment of the throttle linkage.

rpm can be measured thru svc anylseyer. will need to go to dealer. I know youre tryining to do it on the cheap? but as this is new unit to you. the dealer can perform a routine maint check down load codes update software. and give a comprehesivne list of needed repairs (most of which you can accomplish yourself. if you got skills). knowing what to look at is half the battle. prior to brining in remove all covers clean the snot out of it run hard for 8 hrs. get it pm;d at dealer. you will get a list of needed repairs. keep in mind if you want repairs quoted gonna be a little more takes time to look up parts .asses the the job and quote. it being a rust bkt labour cannot be quoted. but you should get a good idea of how to proceed
