Ive done for years its the only way to seal tractor and combine tires (tubeless) the new starting fluid isnt that good anymore its weak (wont put the kids to sleep)just remember that the valve stems going to be hot.
I have never seen one jump off the ground , I seen it done alot years ago by the tire guys doing rubber tired backhoe / loader tires , now that I think about it , insane is a good way to put it , if too much was put in then it could be launched or tire shreds flying all over the place --------- somebody should send it in to MtyhBusters , maybe they will take it to the extreme and empty a can of fluid into a tire and launch it

I could hardly believe it but they showed this being done on TV last night on the show Swamp Loggers to seal a tire up on the lowbed. (about alogging company down in the SE USA, shown on Canadian Satelite TV)

Someone on another forum brought up the topic of welding on a rim. Getting rubber hot can cause pyrolysis. Pyrolysis is the chemical decomposition of condensed substances by heating, that occurs spontaneously at high enough temperatures.
This YouTube video by Bridgestone Tire demonstrates the the process. Here is an Accident Investigation Report (410 kb PDF) that describes an accident that occurred.
I have seen tires bead seated using starting fluid and never gave it much thought. After watching the video and reading the report above, I'm sure I won't use this method unless it is an emergency situation.
Just though you guys might want to know.

Fixed your links they just needed a space at the end of each one.
Also go into your profile and put a check in "free html editor"
Then when you hit "enter" after the link, they turn blue b4 you save them if they are working.
Good info guys, save the either for starting purposes I guess.

Thanks Ken , I got to use the hyperlink feature on another thread ----------- my "avitar" ? didn't work out it was too larger and it would accept it -------------------------------seems everybody you talk to has heard or seen the starting fluid mounting procedure

Fishfiles, you got me thinking with that comment. I've been thinking about making one and what I could use for an inexpensive tank.
I considered a 20# propane tank and with a little research online have found that they will handle the pressure. I also found a guy on another site built one using a propane tank. HERE is the link to the discussion with a couple more pics.

I was going to cut the tank and weld on a 2 inch tank flange, but after seeing this thread, I'm thinking about copying this design. I have all the pieces out in the shop.
What did you make yours out of? What size valve did you use?
I'm concerned that the smaller pipe size won't produce enough of a blast to seat a semi tire. The Cheetah site has a video showing their 5 gallon tank with a 2 inch valve will seat a semi tire.

I used an air tank off of a truck which had air brakes , I guess the real term to use is a vessel , as it had a certifaction tag on it stating what it was capable of withstanding , technically you are not suppose to weld on a vessel , some of the fitting bosses already in it worked out for me , but I had to add a couple , I drilled a hole where I wanted the threaded fitting and welded a heavy duty collar to the tank , to add a little safety to it I added a blow off vavle from and air compressor which will kicks off at about 160 psi , and I fill it to 125 psi when using it
