Greetings all, I charge $75 to show up at site as well as setup. As most my jobs are one day or less, this works fine. However, I am know on day 2 of a 3 day job. The site is not safe for me to leave the unit there over night. What would the consensus be on charging a setup fee for every day as I need to bring the machine back and setup for every day, or do I charge once only. Each day has been a full 8 + hours. I don't want to over charge, but the amount of work is the same as if I were to go to a new site every day. Thoughts??

Some equipment owners in this area consider moving equipment to the job site as part of doing business and compensate in their hourly rate. Others charge a delivery/setup fee, but many just require a 4 hr. minimum for the job. Unless the travel distance/time is excessive, I'd say charge only once since you are working a full day. It could be that the last day doesn't meet the 4hr. minimum, so charging for that would also seem fair.

A businessman should always get paid fairly for the work they perform, but at the same time must always treat the customer fairly as well. This is what gets you references and return customers. No amount of advertising will equal excellent work and attitude, while only one or two "Ah S...T" will be really bad for your business.

I take my machine home every night just for the peice of mind that it's under my control. In my area we go with a minimun for the start of the job. A three day job wouldn't have no extra fee's. Maybe the next time it will be a tree week job for that customer.

I see your point, as one never knows if there might be future business. I appreciate the comments.

I charge for travel time if the job is more than 30 minutes from my yard. We also charge a 4 hour minimum. I charge from the time I pull up to the job to the time Im done loading up, unless Im hauling a load out with me. Then I charge for the time it takes to go to the dump also. If you tell me to be there at 7:00 and your not ready for me untill 8:00, I still charge from the time you told me to be there.

I can see how a delivery charge for every day could be seen as nickel and diming. As each of the 3 days was a full work day, a once only delivery charge is the fairest way to go. Thank you all for the input.
