So, in the process of replacing the rear drive chain on this 453-F, I removed the bolt holding the sprocket onto the splned shaft and drove the axle outwards with a hammer. I figured this was the best way to gain clearance for the chain to slide over the sprocket. Seemed pretty easy at first, but now I am having trouble getting the axle to slide back into the sprocket. I can find no better access than the cover on top of the chain case in the front. With only one hand working by feel and a helper tapping the shaft inwards I gain nothing. Is there a better way? Did I make a huge mistake by pulling the axle? Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I have never done the rear but the front axle needed to be turned slowly whilst holding pressure on the sprocket my seal got ruined by pushing out too far on the axle keep an eye on that good luck
