We bought a 2000 863 that needed some work. The biggest problem is that it smokes when running. I am pretty sure that it is oil smoke comming from somewhere. Before we tear into the motor to overhaul it I figured I would ask if there is anything simple I might check. It smokes all the time does not matter if its loaded or not or hot or cool. It also seems to have pretty good power so that kind of makes me believe not needing overhaul to bad but it may be. Thanks for that help in advance!

The Deutz motor has a PCV system that if not functioning right can cause smoking.

Our 873 with the Deutz engine started smoking too, it was the head gasket, apparently a fairly common problem. There are 3 different styles of head gasket, when we did ours we just got all 3 and returned the 2 that didn't fit. It was a bit of a job to do but it all went very smooth. Hope this helps, Toby
