I have read many different things, for a replacement of a v1702 can you use a 1703, 1902, 1903, and a 2203? also has anyone purchased one lately and from where? thanks guys.

Mine has been doing that for a while, no power loss though, I just add oil every 5 hrs. and keep on going. If everything else is good I would eventually buy a reman motor. just my 2 cents.

what is the little lever with a spring connected, right behind the radiator hose on the valve cover? and the little covers with 2 screws on top of the valve cover (maybe over each injector). Thanks again sooooo much.

Well, it needs to be re-wired, nothing electrical works, has a lot of blow by, uses quart of oil every 3 hrs. and engine bogs down under lighter loads, which i guess means re-build or replace, hydraulic pump moans louder than I think it should, front cylinder leaks slightly, needs a muffler...

Hey Taz, as you've seen and helped me in other posts I have started on a 743 but I am wondering how much I should expect to spend? I got the machine at a decent price but you can sink alot of money fast and then I'm not sure it would ever recoop. Maybe just stop and buy a bigger, newer machine...

well when i bought this machine about a month ago i pulled the access panel off and cleaned the radiator externally with air and vaccuum. as for the thermostat shouldn't it be under the top hose, i guess someone took it out. when it does sound like it is boiling water is going to the overflow so...

i don't have a water temp guage yet but after running for an hour or so i can hear water boiling. i can open the radiator cap and it is full and it doesn't come spewing out or steaming or anything could the water pump be bad and not moving water?

Does the serial number give any clue as to what year a 743 is ? By the way this is the most helpful forum I've seen, I'm trying to read every post on the 743. Thanks, again.

Thanks for the replies, as far as parts I know I need a muffler and a hydrolic fluid cap, and a coolant resevoir.

I just bought a 743 and 1. there is a 90 degree elbow on the valve cover with a hose connected to it, should it be spitting oil out? 2. are the service and parts manuals on ebay for $80 worth it or are there better manuals, 3. do you turn the key to the left and hold it or turn it to the right...
