cold start procedure for 1998 case 1840 uni-loader

I bought an 1840 from my brother. he used the factory installed ether injection to get it going in cold weather, said it was a bitch to get going. I put a block heater on it, 110V, run it for an hour or more depending on the temperature. Starts right up, I also move it from the pole barn to the...

    Case 1840

May I ask the selling price? I’ve got an 1840 I’d like to sell, but I’m not sure what to ask. It’s also a fairly low time machine, like yours, under 1800 hours. I’m the third owner, it was originally a rental unit, Burris in north Chicago burbs. My brother bought it with less than 500 hours...

    Case 1840

Don’t have access to my maintenance manual (out of town), but try the parts catalog on the Messicks site. The parts are broken down by systems, chassis, hydraulics, etc. You should be able to locate it

    D100XR

Re the above ad, misspoke, not an XR (extended reach which digs to 9') this is a standard D100 which digs to 7'

    Hyd hose change

Just thought I would pass this on. Managed to talk to a mechanic at the place where we had purchased this 1840. The system is self bleeding, just hook up the hoses refill hydraulic fluid let it run at idle for several minutes and it will bleed itself. One note of caution. When installing these...

Push non running 1845 into barn

My owners manual (1840) says not to push/tow more than 50' with the bypasses turned not more than 2 turns. That seems really restrictive, but I'm not a hydraulic engineer either.

    Change antifreeze

Did that, did not see much of a change. However I did run it long enough to feel the coolant beginning to get hot to the touch so I guess it's circulating. Still gurgles a bit on shutdown, guess it'll take a bit to work out all the air.

    Hyd hose change

I'm looking to replace the hyd hoses that run to/from the oil cooler on an 1840. They have cracks visible where they flex every time the rear compt door is opened. I know I'll lose a little fluid gettine the old hose off and the new on. I'm going to wind up with air in the lines when I'm done...

    Change antifreeze

My anti-freeze has been in there for about four years so I figured it was time for a change. I measured what I took out about 15 quarts, the capacity is 18 quarts according to the manual. I put back about 15 quarts in about a 60/40 mix anti-freeze to water. The question is does this system get...

75XT Wheel spacer / tire chain question

I run a Case 1840 with chains on front and rear for the very reason you stated, traction is nil without them. I have a rather steep driveway, I tried it one year without the chains and it was a disaster. However my tire size is smaller they are 1000 x 16.5. I know you said you just put new tires...

    Water in chain case

Finished today. Took overnight to melt the accumulated ice in the bottom of the left chain case. Put in a couple of gallons #2 diesel each side and ran it around for about 40 minutes. Back in the garage, jacked the back end up, took about 30 seconds each side using the "suck bucket" to remove...

    Water in chain case

Update on progress. Got the machine in the garage and heater running. Cobbled together a "suck bucket". Works great! I've pulled out about 4 1/2 gallons of fluid, the right case is now dry, still some ice to thaw in the left. Hopefully melted by morning. Then it's been suggested by the guys that...

    Water in chain case

Thanks Jerry, I know exactly what you're referring to. I use something similar in woodworking, keep sawdust and chips from clogging the filter in the shop vac!z

    Water in chain case

Yeah thought about the hammer but there's not a lot of room under there to swing a hammer with much force to malletize them. And I don't have it on a lift. Probably wind up using a torch. Just gotta be careful I don't light off the residual gunk in the belly pan! I did buy a suction pump today...
