i got a bobcat 825 model and am needing some help. Whenever you start the machine there is no hydraulics at all. you have to wait 30 seconds before you can move anything. well, when you finally get going the bucket lift kinda slow and so does tipping. now, biggest problem is i cannot lift and tip the bucket at the same time. it just dead stops everything. What does it sound like the problem is?

Does it make alot of noise, moaning and groaning? Might be low on hyd oil? Later Bobcat.

well as far as tipping and lifting it does not make any noises, but when you steer it it does kinda make like a growling/humming noise????. i notice whenever i shut the bobcat off there is a gurgling sound right under the seat (hydraulic pump location?) and that continues for about 15 seconds after motor is off.

The gurgling sound is probally air bubbles from extreme cavation of the gear pump caused by it being worn out ------ the Smithsonian Museum may be interested in it

does this machine have aux hydraulics? If so check to see that they are not stuck on this is a common issue done it myself more than once good luck....Jeff

The growl/humm sounds like a suction line filter too.
Have you replaced all the filters? and oil could be a problem. THese machines run engine weight oil 10W30 or so. You should be able to do lift and tilt at the same time. It indeed could be a worn pump or something stuck in your relief valve.

The 825 was built in 1974 and most likely due to it's age the hydraulic pump is worn out. Hook up a pressure gage so you can see what's happening when you try to lift and tip. The relief valve could be set too low or have some crap stuck in it. Also check to see if the oil is all foamy after running for a while.
Did you just get this machine? If so can you ask previous owner about it's history.

i made sure the fluid was topped off and it is good. The filters i have not changed yet. I just purchased the machine a few weeks ago and the guy i got it off of said the guy before him unhooked the auxilry hydraulics, so now the peddle does nothing. So, i am unsure where or how he unhooked them. I was kinda wondering if maybe he unhooked them and somehow has the valve open. i will try to raise the cab and take a look to see what i find.

Ok, i took the pump cover off and looked in there for anything out of the ordinary. everything looks good and clean. Does anyone know where the suction line is located? also, do you happen to know which is the auxillary hookup? I am going to get 2 new filters for it tomorrow and install while i got the cover off.

I can't be sure where the filter is exactly as the 825 uses a different pump than my 743/731 machines i have worked on. Is there a square block sitting on the hydraulic pump at all? if there is, look for a fitting that is screwed into it thats larger than the rest, there should be a filter behind it. The other way is to call your dealer and ask if they can look it up for you. They will have a manual for that machine and can tell you exactly where to look. Even if you talk to the spare parts people they can fax you a copy of the parts list showing where its located.

I forgot about the aux hydraulic question, it should be a simple job to re-fit it. Mine used a piece of rod with flexable fittings on the ends that connect to the control block to the steering lever. You may need to remove a locking bolt from the lever to allow it to move side to side.

ok, I ended up draining all the fluid out of the bobcat and putting in all new fluid. i also replaced the filters ( was 2 hydraulic filters). The machine now lifts up smooth and goes up, but for some reason will not tilt and go up at the same time. Think the pump is weak? Thanks

No, not if it still lifts and tilts correctly.
The way the valves work is they have a common high pressure line that connects to all the sections. If the oil goes in say from the top the first section has priority for the oil, then the second and so on. You may just have to deal with it as this is just the nature of the beast. You may find that if you ease the pedal a bit you can get both lift and tilt to work together.
