I have a 743 that is leaking oil when in use. It appears that it is coming out where the throtle cablle connects to the motor. "speed control plate". Has anyone experienced this problem and do you know what part to order and hoe difficult it is to repair.

Do i understand that the oil is coming from the plate where the lever comes out of the engine? There is a small gasket under it, you may just need to replace that gasket. A small note, under that plate there are 2 springs that attach the arm to the govoner lever(s), these 2 springs are a total pig to re-attach without also removing the stop cover plate. It can be done with a pair of pointy nose pliers and a second set of hands.
I cheated, i used some red high temperature silicone on mine, as the "full gasket set" did not contain that gasket.
I hope this is of some use, as i have just finished re-assembling a V1702 engine and some of the information is still in my head, well for now at least...

I just now was able to get back online here something was up with the password. Tazza I called the local dealer and he says he has the speed control plate O ring for the throttle control. Is the O ring a big deal to install? Is this when yuou need the needle nose and two hands or is it realatively easy to do. I do not want to take it apart until I have some downtime if it could be a big hassle to get back together.

ooh, the oil is leaking from where the arm enters the alloy casting? if so, i will have to get back to you on that one, as i have a spare one here that i can pull apart to see how hard it is to do. Also, yes, to do this will require you to grow an extra set of hands or the help of another person. There are 2 springs that hold the throttle arm to the governor. You will need to hold these with a pair of pointy noise pliers and be as careful as you can not to let them slip out. Otherwise you will need to remove the stop lever plate to get them. I will try an remember to have a look at how hard it isi to replace the O ring on the throttle lever tomorrow.

ok, sorry for the delay.

I believe you can replace this O ring without removing the housing it goes through. Undo the 2 lock nuts that hold the lever in place. Remove the washer on top of the arm, now, you will need to try and lever the arm off the shaft, it has a key to locate its self. Once you remove the arm, remove the key from the shaft and remove the large washer under it, you should see the O ring under that, oil the O ring before installing it. Re-assemble in reverse order (of course).

The shaft may have some slight movement downwards but it should hit the timing cover housing, so it will not drop all the way down.

If you have any questions just yell!

typically eng oil leaks around add ons (speed plate throttle plate etc ) are not reffered as blowining oil .seep maybe. but not blowing oil. crankcase pressure at best not eng oil pressure. check pcv and blow by tube.
