Hi, I am new to this forum. I have found a 1996 lx565 for sale in the paper. It has 2400 hrs for 8200 dollars. The paint is in tough shape and a dent on the visor. If I go and look at it, what should I look for? Anything to look out for on this model year? How easy do you think it would be to paint one of these things yourself>? Thanks.

THANKS for the info! Anyone else?
Charger knows his machines, he works for New Holland.
Painting, honestly the only way to do a top paint job is to strip the machine which is really not an option. You can paint it assembled but you will always get paint on hoses and other things you really didn't want to touch.
I'd make sure the engine was stone cold then see how easily it starts. If its warm it tells you nothing about the status of the engine. Check for smoke, it should smoke a little at startup and when running should be clear. Under load it should puff a small amount of black but it should not spew out black smoke under load.
Good luck on your purchase.

Thanks for the info, I can not test drive it cuz the seat switch is not working, so I guess it will not function fully without it. They are supposed to fix it soon. With all the joints and pins, should I be checking that out, or should it not be an issue at 2300hrs? Is this alot of hours if it has been maintained properly? Thanks.

Thats really not a lot of hours if it has been maintained correctly. But if the pins were never greased they will be badly worn. Same with the engine, if the oil wasn't changed enough it will cause problems too. Diesel engines usually start to get sad at around the 4-5000 hour mark, naturally its a slow process over time but usually around that mark starting becomes an issue. Even with high hours it will still be ok, but getting it started as it has lower compression really is a problem, especially in winter!
Wait till you can drive it and see what the pin wear is like, its the only real way to do it.

Thanks again guys! How do you check the pin wear? Just by lifting the arms and pushing on the side of them to see if they sway? Thanks.

I'm not sure where the lift rams join to the arms but i usually pull the arms rite down then watch where the ram eye goes through the pin and lift the arm slowly and watch to see how far the ram moves. It should only move a little bit.
Side to side movement is normal, as long as it not a real lot.
