tooth bar or bucket?

I need to get a bucket with teeth for digging.A bucket with teeth welded on is going to cost me around $1000.The other option is bolting in a tooth bar when I need it but i'm not sure what one costs or if it would work well.

Bolt on cutting edges are available and do work, there are a few people in here that use them. Unfortunately i have no idea on the price of them. I would expect a few hundred as the teeth aren't cheap.

bolt on teeth cost about 30 bucks apiece at bobcat you can bolt them to a flat bucket when needed and remove them for grading ...Jeff

Tooth bars are around 450 depending on bucket widths and can be put on or off in minutes.
I like the ones I have but because I have spare buckets I keep the teeth on my 66" and leave my 72 for grading. 66" slips inside nicely when I need to bring both buckets along. Although the 72 is alittle big for hauling gravel with my 773.

Bolt on teeth are a better way to go, they are extremely strong and very hard to snap, I put a full set on my 68" combo bucket behind my T190 last year and I actually even tried to snap one with no luck. Tooth bars are only good for mild digging and wear out faster and will bend or snap, and if you should happen to bend the cutting edge on the bucket and use a straight new tooth bar, it's gonna be real awkward to get it to bolt on. Best thing to do is get a spare bucket with teeth on it for cheap............OR what I did when I bought my T190 3 years ago, I bought it with the combo bucket, with the teeth on it you get superior digging force due to the added weight of the bucket and when you need a straight edge to scrape off concrete, just open the bucket up and use the edge on the blade part of the bucket.

I am trying to do something similar. A prior owner welded a good set of digging teeth right to the cutting edge. My plan is to cut off the entire cutting edge and make it into a bolt on tooth bar. The main hang-up so far is that I have been trying to find a cheaper cutting edge than the $200 one from Bobcat. John

Try calling industrial steel shops. They generally have this sort of steel available and will profile cut an edge off for you. I'm not sure on the grade (hardness) you need, but i think when i did a little research they were talking about 400-600 Rockwell harness. If you go too hard you can shatter the edge when you hit rock.

My local steel supplier actually carries bulk cutting edge in a variety of widths, thicknesses, and profiles with and without predrilled holes. They will cut you any length you want.
I didn't know they carried it until I found a bunch of drops in the discount area... The stuff in the discount area is 50 cents per pound. That is significantly less than what the dealer charges.
