Today I changed another travel motor from planetary failure , I have lost count on how many I have done so far , getting good at it , change the drive motor and 2 filters , and the rock drain filter is kinda hard to do , all in 2 hours------ a new motor is $4,300 plus you have to buy a $593 new spocket wheather you need it or not as the old sprocket doesn't work with the new style travel motor as the offset depth of the teeth are different as the newer one has a bigger planetary housing which is good , the old style motors are no longer avaiable so you have to upgrade , seems to me that isn't really fair to the customer , the OEM parts are no longer available after a little over 1 year of having the machine and you are pentilized $593 to buy something that you really don't need to make a retro fit work , the original unit shouldn't have gone out 2 months and 200 hours out of warranty to start with , by the time you add up parts , labor , oil and filters it's pushing $6,000 per side to do a travel motor job on a T series , throw in a set of tracks and some idlers and rollers and are you really making any money with your T seris machine , a rough estimate we banged around yesterday , thinking of periodic servicing , fuel , track wear , normal parts wear out and failures and the ridcules prices of parts , we figure the cost of operation for the Tseries to be at least $20 per hour if you are lucky , if your charging say $60 per hour , thats 1/3 of your money before you pay any notes or insurance on it , so what are you really getting per hour to operate it

What causes these failures? What should I look for on my t200?
One thing to look for is the planetary oil , it only hold 3 ozs per side of mobile synthic 150 , cost about $40 for 6 ozs at the dealer , cost $1,485 per 5 gallon bucket at the local oil supplier , the most expensive oil I ever dealt with , I would change this oil frequently , proper track tension is important and good rollers , keep the tracks clean may help , see alot of the rear idlers take the shape of a sprocket after time and I would think that this condition causes a binding , I don't really know if anything can be done

How many hours are you getting out of a drive motor out of curiosity? Also, is it actually a planetary final drive? I don't know a whole lot about BC, but I thought they use basically the same drive motor setup as on a s300 on the T300, without planetary reduction. I could see where the load on the motors would be excessive with tracks if I'm right on this.

The last one was 1200 + hours , which was probally the lowest amount of hours I have seen one fail , seems most are around 1500-2000 hours , but that's a lot of street work ------no it's not a planetary drive , Planetary was a bad choice of words on my part , when you look at the cover and have to fill it with oil like an excavator travel motor it makes me call it the planetary , but bearing /brake housing would better discribe it as it doesn't have a planetary set up in it , maybe it should be a planetary drive cause they sure don't last , I have never done a S300 travel motor so I am not sure if they are the same

I believe the correct choice of words would be "drive motor carrier". Also, since fishfiles says they only hold 3 oz of oil, I guess I have the older style. My T200 drive motor carrier holds 90 oz of syn. 90w oil I believe. If you look in this section of the forum there is other talk about this.

We also had to upgrade our drive motors - hence new sprockets on the T300 we use. We shopped on the internet and found Gaberdeen (www.gaberdeen.com). Picked up the new style sprocket for around $400. I called around and they were the only source I could find for the new style sprockets.

Here's a T300 nightmare solved , l was leaking hyd oil from the boom spool cap , changed the seals on the shaft and the seal or shaft really didn't look bad , next day it was leaking again , so I changed them a second time , getting better at it , 2 hour job for just the boom spool , tilt spool with high flow is rough , two days later leaking again , I am thinking the vavle body is cracked , I was looking thru the service manuel for something else and see there is a plastic plug and o ring inside the hollow spool which seals oil from leaking around the threads of the stud which holds the detent to the spool , it gave me the procedure of drilling a 1/16 hole in plug and threading a 6/32 tap into it and pulling it out the hole as it is pushed in there ------------------so what I m saying is if your T300 is leaking oil out the back cap which covers the detent and spring and you are going to change the seals , be sure to get the palstic plug and o ring which cost about and extra $10
