Greetings, Newbie question here. Is it normal practise to increase your hourly charge if you use attachments above and beyond your bucket? I.e. if I were to use a concrete breaker I own, do I charge extra? Your input would be appreciated. cheers, Peter

In my opinion, you absolutly can charge more, especially with an expensive piece like a breaker. If you've invested in the attachments, you should be paid for them and the service you can provide with them.

I know a few excavating contractors that charge 50% extra per hour, for a breaker. The excessive wear on the machine when using the breaker is their justification.
With my tractor(43 hp Kubota) I have quite a few attachments that I don't charge extra for. I feel just having the tools to do the job is part of the cost of doing business IMO. If I had a breaker though(for my excavator), I would also charge 50% more than the basic rate, due to wear and the initial cost of the breaker.

Good point, maybe an idea would be to charge extra for attachments which require extra upkeep / maintenance (breakers / stump grinders) vs. say a grapples / combo buckets.

Your right! you should be able to charge extra for high wear, maintenance and costly attachments. This makes perfectly good sense, but in the end the competition will decide what you do. If there isn't any competition, then you get to make the rules.

Definently charge more for attachments on your machine , the going rates for a machine with operator down here on the Gulf Coast varys on machine size , but say a T-190 with a bucket gets $60 per hour and most have a 4 hour min which would include travel time in and out the job , a wheeled 7 series is $50 , T-190 with a hammer it's $100 per hour for braking time , grapple $70 per hour , auger drive $80 per hour , some charge for the attachment as a flat price and by hour on machine and operator , a good operator gets $20 per hour ,a rookie $10

I charge $15 extra an hour for any hydraulically operated attachment, ie. brushcat, soil conditioner, etc...
