Hi, I'm new to this forum, I have just bought a 2001 331D mini and put about 5 hours on it, it burnt about 7 gals of diesel. Does that seem about right? The 331 runs perfect has 2650 hrs, and is in very good shape. I used to own a 1998 325 mini and I could run it all day (8 hours) on 5 gals.

That is a little more fuel than I would like to see it burn. On average the machine use about 10 to 12 gallons of fuel in a 8hr day. The engine may be a little worn out. One of the injectors may be faulty allowing it to run, but not spraying right and may be going down the piston rings. In about a 100 hrs of run time take and check your oil, see if it smells like diesel, or do a compression test on the unit, and see if one of the cyclinders are weak.

I have put a little over 100 hours on my machine. As I mostly use it on my property for myself, I didn't start keeping accurate hours til just recently. Every 4-5 hours it burns 5 gals. Which is OK but a pain to fill every 4-5 hours. The problem is the fuel guage reads in the red after 5 hours, the warning buzzer goes off and the "check fuel" sign comes on. The one time I tried to put more than one 5 gal container in and it took maybe 2 gals then overflowed. It is supposed to have a 12 gal tank. I am currently at 6 hrs use and well into the red, I think there must be problem with the fuel guage so I am going to run it until I run out of fuel or put 8-9 hours on it. Any thoughts before I run it dry? Thanks for your input.

The fuel gauges never seen to give a true reading, they are just a "fuel indicator". I replaced my sender and gauge, it still reads 1/2 a tank as being about 1/4 on the gauge. It really buggs me as i spent about $150 on a sender and gauge and it won't give a true reading.
I spoke to the head service tech about it and he said they are never correct.
I should have kept using my old stuff *shrug* you live and learn i guess......
Running the machine dry won't cause any problems, its just a pain to re-prime the system when you do.

I Don't know if you can use one or not on your mini ex., but a good clean stick is hard to beat. MY fuel gauge on my 853 is the same way. I think it must be up for election, because it never tells the same story. dennis

The sender on my 753 skid kept getting worse until it showed empty regardless of the fuel level. At first it beep the warning @ 1/2 tanks then soon it was doing when the machine was full. Was @ 3200 hours on it

Thanks for all the quick replies, I think the stick is a good idea. I'll try that this am and see what happens. Mark
