I love my Bobcat and want to take care of it properly. It is a 2001 773 with the Kubota V2003T-EB engine, which is the 56 HP turbo-charged version. I bought it new in 2002 and used the stock engine oil until the first oil change at 50 hours. When performing this oil and filter change I switched to Molile 1 5-30 sythentic oil since we see such cold tempuratures here in Alaska. I just performed the 250 hour oil and filter change with Mobile 1 again.
After researching oils again, I see that more people use Shell Rotella T-Synthetic 5W-40 oil rather than Mobile 1. Does anyone here have experience with synthetics in their machine.

I swear by Mobil 1. I put it in every machine I own, both old and new. I notice a significant reduction in oil temp and can even hear less noise in my engine valve train. Can't beat it in cold weather. I figure NASA uses it, and they could use any oil they wanted, even refine there own if they wanted...money is no object for them, yet they use Mobil 1.....got to be good.....

I bought some Mobile Delvac 1 5W-40 (a synthetic also) to try on the next oil change. It has a higher API rating than standard Mobile 1 (CH4 vs. CF). The 4 in the API rating is for high RPM engines. I think it has more detergents and antifoaming agents that the diesel engines can benefit from. The Shell Rotella T Synthetic had the same API and viscosity ratings as Mobile Delvac 1 and same price. I simply chose the same brand as I currently have in the machine.

I have read that not all synthetic oil is infact full synthetic oil. Only a percentage of the oil has to be made of synthetic material. Mobil is the only one makine 100% synthetic oil.....regardless, it is good stuff. What really sold me on it...I was searching google for Mobil synthetic oil and came upon a Harley motorcycle discussion board. A guy on the board works for a company that has an oil analyser (sp) he tested his Harley brand engine oil after 3000 miles and found 10% depletion of the oil ( don't know how the test works...but it told him the oil was losing its protective properties) he changed to mobil 1 and put 6000 miles on the bike, tested the oil and found less than 1% loss of protective quality. That impressed me.....Then, I have a off road vehicle that was running way to hot ( 230 degree oil temps) I was going to install a oil cooler, but tried the synthetic oil first, I have yet to run higher than 180 degrees. That really sold me on it. Only problem I have is that I treat the stuff like gold. At $5 a quart, I hate to see any waste or leaks......

Both Mobil 1 and Mobil Delvac 1 are true synthetics, not blends. Yes, I do agree that sythetics can extend drain intervals, but you should have an oil analysis test performed to ensure that the oil is not degrading or accumulating harmful particles (dirt, metal, etc...). Many labs perform this oil analysis such as Mobil, Cat, Detroit Diesel, and independants such as Blackstone Labs, but these tests do cost money. The $20 fee that Blackstone Labs charges for analysis will just about fill up my engine, even at $5 / quart. I'd rather just change the synthetic oil at the recommended interval and enjoy the benefits of cooler engine temps and longer engine life. Here is a quote from Mobil's website stating the other benfits of Delvac 1: "The Synthetic Alternative Mobil Delvac 1, a synthetic engine oil, measurably extends the service intervals and engine life of high output diesel engines running under heavy loads over long distances. In comparison to high quality mineral-based engine oils, the synthetic technology of Mobil Delvac 1 handles greater quantities of soot and other combustion by-products, while providing outstanding resistance to oxidation and sludge formation, thus keeping engines cleaner. Mobil Delvac 1 is an especially advantageous choice for vehicles routinely used in extreme temperatures. Engine start-up is quicker and easier on electrical systems when it is cold and when it is hot, all critical engine components receive effective lubrication. Mobil Delvac 1 also offers excellent resistance to viscosity increase and the potential for improved fuel economy compared to conventional viscosity grade products." I am using Bobcat brand oil filters that I get from my dealer for ~$5 each. This is not a bad price. Are there any other brands that people are using?

I'm using the Bobcat oil filter and oil, but am thinking about switching to Mobile on my next change. What's the difference between Mobil 1 and Mobil Delvac 1?

After really reading the previous posts, looks like that has been covered. Anyone have anymore info on this?
