i have a 753 with the kubota v2203 (older machine, no BOSS). when i turn the ignition key to on, sometimes i have to go to the engine/injection pump and manually move the fuel shutoff solenoid rod before it will start. when i turn the key off, it releases every time. i assume this fuel solenoid is just an electromagnet and that it's getting power since it holds fine once manually moved and releases when power is turned off. does this sound like a bad solenoid and do you think a replacement would solve this problem? thanks

The way these solenoids work is they run 2 coils. One is the pull coil that uses a lot of power for a short time to pull the plunger back. The other coil is the hold coil. This will hold the plunger in place but does not have the power to pull the plunger back. If your pull coil is burnt out moving the plunger back it will snap in when the hold coil can grab it.
It may be an idea to check the grounds as you said some times it works. It could be just a bad connection. The solenoids are a little pricey so i'd try and ensure it is the problem before changing it. You can test it by working out the ground and hooking up a wire. Run power from the battery to the other connections. Do not hold power on the pull coil connection too long, the coil will burn up, its only made for small on times of under 20-30 seconds.
Good luck!

There is 2 "spdt relay" used on the boss machines, likely on yours to, $5 at Napa or any auto parts store. One is for the solinoid pull in and the other is for the glow plugs.
Had exact same trouble with my 93 753 "boss" @ 2100 hours and relay cured it.
Looks like a 1" cubed plastic box with 5 male blades terminals on it. Mine was under the cab near the top left of the hyd tank.

i resolved to flip the solenoid by hand and used it all winter. now i'm back to getting it right and have recently found the problem to be the timer that's just before the fuel solenoid. thanks everyone.
