Bobcat 853 axle wear ring

Hello,

So my axle seal is leaking badly. I removed the hub and pulled the old seal. The service manual talks of a wear ring and the parts manual shows one as removable.

I got a new seal and ring from bobcat dealer with my serial number. However I tried to chisel it a bit and wondering if this ring does in fact remove before I do some serious damage. Thought I'd ask before I proceed any further .pics below.

Turns out you just have to commit haha

Just cut them with a cut off wheel, they spring open. Then you can use the old one to drive the new one on. This trick works for bearing races too. The book says the bearings require no grease, but I always pack them, and fill the lip of the seal with grease. This helps keep the oil in and water out. If you don't it seems like water always gets in the chain case.
