mustang 1200 Flywheel / starter problems

VH4D engines were popular in farm equipment and generators. Maybe you can find something in a scrapyard?

    Mustang 1700

I don’t see a sheave in the pictures. As far as using a different engine, I would recommend sticking with the original as much as possible. Retrofitting would likely require significant engine-ering (pun intended)!

    Right side drive for Mustang

Actually, it was a Case 1537… here are some pics. I mixed and matched the clutches to get my machine running, but there may be some parts to help get you going.

    Mustang 1700 Reset

Your clutches look great! I would definitely use them, considering a replacement clutch is $50 for each one… works out to about $1,200 to replace the packs. Adjust them perfectly, and you will get a lot of service life out of them. Running on low hydraulic fluid, or a steep upward incline...

    Mustang 1700 repower. Suggestions?

I don’t recommend anything less than the original, as they seem underpowered to me anyway. How did the sheave work out?

    Owatonna Mustang 1700 Restore/repair project

Fun project if it’s not too cold! I had to re-do my entire electrical system last year on my 1200. Not sure if I can help, but lemme know if you have a specific question.

    Belt removal on a 1200

I’ll weigh in here. The instructions are the same, even though the configuration is different. The split flange and bearing removal is necessary. It’s good to have a buddy help hold the shaft and variable pulley with a rope as you install the new pulley.

    Mustang 1200 starter problem

So it seems like either the spacing is wrong, or the ring is loose on the flywheel. Can you take a picture of the opening and gear?

How’s the progress on the 1700? I get my hoses custom made as I wait at my local NAPA. Prices aren’t bad either.

    Mustang 1200 starter problem

When the starter engages on the bench, does the gear move forward?

    Mustang 1700 Reset

These wheels have extra lug holes. I turned my rims around on my 1200 and used the other set of holes to widen my wheelbase. No spacers are necessary. A reamer and 35 degree countersink rasp does a great job of enlarging the holes and machining a countersink for the lug nuts. The wheelbase is...

    Right side drive for Mustang

I have old clutch pack components and control arm parts from an old John deer. They were compatible with my OMC mustang 1200. If you are interested, I can send pics and measurements.
