    630 - Repower

Update. I gave the old motor to a colleague who always wanted one, he says. He stripped the motor and this is what he found: So, it seems that it was the correct choice to re-engine the little machine. Wow, I really feel relieved that I did not spend the money in vain. If anyone wants...

    630 Skid-By-Wire

Forgot to say. I will in all likelihood remove the detents when this is all sorted out, but they're really useful at the moment providing a zero reference. If I remove them I have no way of adjusting the servos and linkages to neutral. Let's see what this week brings.

    630 Skid-By-Wire

Thanks Tazza for the commiseration. I agree with the stuffing the gunk into the wound, and it's usually right on the working parts of the fingers so really painful. Anyhow, the new servos arrived today. Here's a size comparison: Now, some lasering. So, today, the biggest storm of the winter is...

    630 Skid-By-Wire

Hey DiscountUFOParts, check this: My local hydraulics supplier had these add on 90's (female/male on the two ends of the 90). I now have tons of space there, and while I was at it I replaced the grater. I didn't realize how much hose length the 90's saved - I reckon I could have shortened the...

    Bobcat 630 Starter - Prestolite -

rnbuck, I counted the teeth and they were correct. I checked the spacing, bolt pitches and everything else I could think of. It was considerably shorter than the Prestolite one - the Prestolite had an auxiliary bracket attached to the block to help the cantilever attachment. The problem that I...

    Bobcat 630 Starter - Prestolite -

Sorry, rnbuck, didn't realize my mail address wasn't in my profile. It is now. I would heed OldMachinist's warnings - my second starter wasn't that great (it sometimes got caught in the ring gear), though it may be because I had damaged the ring gear. I would also try DiscountUFOPart's option...

    Bobcat 630 Starter - Prestolite -

I would not suggest going the route of the US Government retrofit - the starter did not work. In fact, I think it may have damaged my ring gear slightly. I bought OldMachinist's suggestion. I can send you a DXF of the adaptor I cut then you can get any laser shop to cut you some. Send me a PM if...

    630 Skid-By-Wire

Thanks for the excellent suggestion. I'm going to strip the relevant graters and head off to the shop immediately.

    630 Skid-By-Wire

Thanks Tazza - read on for the two steps forward 5 back... So I got busy yesterday getting the stuff in. Here is progress: This was after blood transfusion 4 from lacerated fingers, forearms, knuckles, etc. What's really predictable is that the hose with the rope on it, in the most prominent...

    630 Skid-By-Wire

Rightey. Started on the pusher rods. The tube is 100mm long, threaded about 55mm long, the relief drilled for the remaining 45mm. The thread is 1/2“-20, which should give me pretty fine zeroing adjustment. The capscrew that goes through the spool hole is 6.35mm (1/4”) from the end of the push...

    630 Skid-By-Wire

A little bit of planning today. There are many, many posts on this site that speak of the challenging pleasures of getting to the control block on older machines. Most of them speak of the challenge, few of the lacerated fingers from worn hoses. Anyway, this is the end of the control block to...

    630 Skid-By-Wire

WARNING: THIS IS PRETTY SHOCKING (REALLY) Ok, so this morning I wanted to work on the links from the servo box to the control block. I needed to measure to hole through the shaft so picked up the plastic digital caliper I had bought from that super el-cheapo tools shop that has a nautical theme...

    630 Skid-By-Wire

Ok Tazza, I'm going to be motivated to completion for you :) Perhaps I should delve a little into RC servo operation and what I'm trying to do as there seems to be more than cursory interest in this post. This is my understanding and if I'm wrong let me know. Also, for those who know this...

    630 Skid-By-Wire

Thanks discountufoparts. I have delved fairly deeply into my little machine - I wrote it up in my “Reclamation” post. If it wasn't for this list I'd have torched the machine. I have very high expectations of success with this project. The parts are cheap, reliable, available and with a little...

    630 Skid-By-Wire

So I got going on a new project for the little machine the other day. In my Prestolite post there is a mention of those infuriating control valve spools. My machine was stuck on the driveway for the entire winter of one of the four coldest winters in Illinois history. The cause was a combination...
