Hello All, I have a 440B and need some help. Previous owner of machine had a KT-17 installed. I have replaced it with a M20. Now the problem, They hacked the original wiring. I have a plug with 2 terminals, one wire is white with black stripe, other has a blue wire and an orange wire. Also have 2 wires with the plugs cut off, one white with black stripe, and a black wire. Off the engine I have a white wire, and a black wire. At the plug off the ignition switch, with the key in run the white w\black is hot and the blue-orange is not. Which wires hook to which? I am not the best at wiring so I would like to hear from someone that is. Sorry if this seems trivial, I am at wits end. Thanks, Gary

Does the M20 have a magneto ignition or a regular coil ignition? The original engine had a magneto so the ignition switch would have grounded out the mag when you turned the key off.
Plug with 2 terminals, black/white would have gone to the magneto and blue to the voltage regulator B+ terminal. No idea what the orange wire was.
Other wires were for a fuel shutoff solenoid, black/white- 12+ when the key is on and black was ground.

Thanks OM, It has a magneto ignition. The two wires that they cut the plugs off have no power when key is in run position.[fuel shutoff solenoid] The plug with the blue ond orange wire are tied to the same terminal, On the engine the black wire comes off the rectifer. Hope this helps clear it up a bit. Oh and by the way, If it starts up with no wires hooked-up, You have a heck of a time shutting it off! Dont ask how I know this! Thanks, Gary

On the M20 there should be a white wire that comes from the magneto, that is the ground to kill wire.
Here's the original wiring diagram.
