rear main oil seal leaking S150

hi all, I have been a long time reader first time poster. I have a problem with my cat.Its a Bobcat S150 with a Kubota V2203. It started out with a fuel shut off problem (found bad relay) now after running it for 15-20 mins it shuts down. I open the rear door to find motor oil coming from behind the flywheel. can anyone shed a light at the end of my tunnel and tell me this is a pretty easy fix?? and does anyone have detail instructions on the repair thanks for any and all advice

Thanks, maybe some one will be able to help me and tell me if replacing the rear engine shaft seal is as hard as it looks or Saturday afternoon job
I have never had to do it with the engine in the machine still.
One thing to check before you change the seal is that the beather is not plugged up. If it built up pressure it has to go somewhere. Generally it blows the dipstick out.
Now, if that is ok, you will need to do the seal. Take the flywheel off and see where the bell housing mounts. I thought that it did not cover the rear main seal carrier. You remove the aluminium seal carrier then replace the seal and re-install it.
As i already said, i have never done it in the machine, but i have done rear main seals with the engine out, it is not hard to do. The hardest part is finding a drift the right size to knock the new seal into the carrier.

The service manual shows removing the flywheel without removing the engine/pump assembly so you maybe able to get to the seal. You'll have to be able to pull the seal out of the bearing housing with it still attached to the engine, using a slide hammer maybe. Myself I'd just pull the engine/pump assembly so I didn't have to work in a cramped hole.

I bet you.. That my breather is stopped up and after running it for 15 minutes or so it blew out the seal due to crank case pressure. This unit was gave to me if I could pull it out of the mud.. See a good friend of mine was working in a lake bed and got stuck and he left it and it sank to about foot pedel level in mud for over 5 days and he said if I wanted it to go and pull it out I could have it, now I have replaced the battery, all filters,fuel primer bulb,fuel lines clean all mud and let sun dry for 2 weeks, when I started the first time it ran and shut down untill I found a bad pull relay. Now I have oil pouring out from behind the flywheel. I sure hope I can get this repaired pretty easy. We live to far out to take to a shop. Do you by chance have a print out or pics of the parts needed? Thanks for all the help guys

I don't have pics, but removing the fly wheel isn't too bad.
Take the drive belt cover off, take the bolts holding the fly wheel on. Remove teh bolts holding the alloy bearing carrier on. Remove the carrier with the seal, replace teh seal and re-install.
Now, check the breather is not plugged, i thought mine was plumbed into the intake manifold, yours may be vented out and filled with mud.
Sounds like you got a good deal on the machine, i love my S150, it is a very powerful machine.

I would take your new seal to the hardware store and find some pvc pipe to match it to make a seal install tool put a cap or plug on the other side to tap on make sure it is long enough to get to

To pull I have used two wood screws and a piece of wood with holes the the right size block in the center to space for your homemade puller drill two small holes in the seal carefully for the screws tighten up the screws to pull the seal

From the picture in the service manual you can't get the seal carrier off without first removing the flywheel housing(it won't fit thru the hole). Not sure you can remove that without pulling the engine

Wow... Thanks for all the replay. It's funny that I call my local bobcat dealer for advice and they did not have time to help me, but I come here and everyone helps.. Thanks so very much for all you guys help..here's what I did today. I called bobcat to price the seal it was 59.95 (in stock) so I then called Kubota and it was 24.00 (had to be ordered and will be here tomorrow.

I called bobcat to price the seal it was 59.95 (in stock) so I then called Kubota and it was 24.00 (had to be ordered and will be here tomorrow.
I've changed many rear main seals that style without pulling the seal retainer. I carefully thread a few sheetrock screws in it, (not too deep), hold on to the screw with pliers, then gently pry against the pliers. They usually pop right out. Clean the seal cavity up, coat the new one lightly with oil and tap it evenly back in with a small hammer. Never had one leak doing it this way.

So... This morning I'm out looking at the bobcat and I see that the belt looks pretty easy to remove. However it does look to be harder going back on? I've done research on the forums on how to adjust the belt and needing special tools to do so? Is this true and how do I get them

All the guys here are happy to help, but if you are going to keep the machine, and considering what you paid for it, I would get the maintenance manual for it. That's the FIRST thing I did when I bought my machine. Bill B

Make sure you get the right service manual for your serial number. There are at 4 or 5 serial number breaks for the S150, each with a different service manual. Post the first 7 digits of your serial number and I'll tell you which manual you need.
