When I move the left joy stick to the left, the Interlock Control System BICS, turns off the #4 "Traction" light. The Error Codes that display are….. 75-01 CAN Joystick Information Error; 39-28 Left Joystick Internal Failure; 40-13 Right Joystick Grip Not Connected. Right Joystick works fine so I don't understand this last Error Code. All other machine operations seem to work fine. I am thinking this is likely an electrical issue. Possibly due to corrosion as it is pretty wet here in Hawaii. I have the BobCat Service Manual but before digging into the repair I thought it might be helpful to check with you guys here.

Honestly, you should have a dealer look at the unit. My feeling is a left joystick problem that is confuseing the controller to throw the other codes. That said the controller itself could be the cause. Just to add to this wondful none answer, wiring could be a problem, but not my first guess. As a former bobcat dealer tech, problems are easiest solved by swapper suspected parts. This may not sound professional, but it is often faster and more accurate then the pinpoint tests offered by the factory.

Thanks BobCatDan, So then..... can I swap the left Joystick (or parts) with the Right one and see if the same codes pop up? Getting it to a dealer is not going to happen because I can't turn it left and therefore can't turn it out of the location it is stored in. It would have to be an onsite service call which I will resort to if I can't find a way to determine what might be the cause of the problem.

You can try as I'm pretty sure plugs are the same, but I have never had luck with swapping. Seems the machine recognizes the swap and throw faults for that.

wires should reach swap out if if moves from left to right you got youre answer. and know they don't know ( butt from a hole in the ground)

Do you guys think I should access connectors at the Joysticks or under the seat in the Control Panel. Looking at the Service Manual I can't tell which is best. Thanks for the help!

I am finally getting back to trying to resolve this problem. I thought switching the joysticks... left with right and right with left might allow me to identify if the left joystick was actually the problem or if there was a problem deeper in the system. When I switched the left one to the right side it continued to beep and turn off the system. Issuing only the same Error Code 40-13, Right Joystick Grip Not Connected. Which is odd in that nothing is physically disconnected not was it before when it was on the other side. But there was an additional surprise in that it, still controlled machines movement rather than lifting. So, since it is still controlling the same valves etc. It seems like there is no guarantee that the problem is in the Joystick as it could be in the same valves etc. triggering the problem. I assumed, that the joysticks were just dumb controllers and would control different movements depending on which side they were installed on. Apparently that is not correct and they "know" which movements they should be controlling regardless of which side they are installed on. So I am perplexed and still trying to accurately diagnose the problem. I have been told that Bobcat has upgraded the Joysticks as these older ones had issues. In case I need one I am looking for a good source for Pricing. I might even consider a used one if I knew it was working properly.

The joystick is nothing much more then POT sensors. The controller looks at the x and y axis to determine what you want to do. The earlier round base joysticks did have some problems. If you have that style, it would most likely to be recommend that the update kit be put in. I don't think the old style is even available. It's best to have a dealer do it. The software needs to be updated. Once the joysticks are replaced, they need to be facilitated also. Also be it, you technically don't need the laptop for that.

Thanks Bobcatdan for the continued input. My joysticks fit into square boxes with 4 allen screws at each corner. The actual unit though, that slips down into the square box, is round. Not sure which part you are referring to as being "round". That said, my problem still remains that I cannot seem to determine if the left joystick is actually faulty or if the controller or valves are triggering the problem. I hoped switching them would give me a clear answer but since the left one, now on the right, is still actuating the same valves and beeps the system off, I have no clear answer. Local dealer said a Joystick is around $1,500.00+ each! So hesitate to buy unless I know for sure that the item is truly faulty. Sounds like I am going to have to take the machine into my local Bobcat Dealer. Not keen to pay for parts until they stumble on to the one that fixes it......

Thanks 7LBSSMALLIE. But I don't know what NSS or NLA are. Can you provide more info?

Just a follow up on my progress. Just to be sure, I have switched the joysticks back and forth now a few times just to make sure about my conclusions. And the left joystick continues to control machine movement regardless of which side it is connected on. And the right joystick continues to control lifting regardless of which side it is connected it. So... clearly the joysticks aren't entirely dumb as they "know or remember" what they are supposed to control regardless of which sides connector, they are plugged into. So I can't fully isolate the Joystick as the problem. When turning right or left the system will click off with a couple of beeps. If I am very delicate and barely turn right or left, just nudging the turn, it will work, though very slowly, eventually clicking off. If I go for 50%+ or more flow in either direction it will 99% of the time it will click off immediately. On very, very rare occasions, it will work really good and turn with full normal flow. In fact, few times It has continued to turn rapidly and required some jiggling around of the joystick to get it to stop turning. One Joystick is about $1,100.00 and not in stock locally, so I guess I will have to buy a new one and just see if it resolves the problem. If something beyond the joystick is causing a problem with flow to the wheels for turning I guess I will have to tackle that next. Though it seems all the Error codes indicate a joystick problem. Current codes are 39-07 Y-Axis Not In Neutral, 75-01 CAN JoyStick Information Error. All of which pop up at various times when system goes off.

Latest update on my BobCat's Joystick Problem. I tried everything with no improvements so I finally bought a new one. It was suggested that it wouldn't work without being calibrated. I installed it and when following the Calibration Instructions, couldn't get the final confirmation that it had calibrated. Regardless, it seemed to work just fine anyway so I was able to get back to work on my property. Shortly after that though, one of the lift cylinders blew a Seal so I got some on eBay as my local dealer didn't have them in stock. I replaced seals in both Lift Cylinders. Also had gotten a flat while it was sitting. Thought I would have to got to extremes to get the tire to seat on the rim. But after sitting over night off the ground, I was able to just soap it down and fill it with air and the Bead seated just fine. I did blow a hose on the 4/1 Bucket for which the local dealer didn't have a replacement in stock but was able to get one made while I waited at Hydraulic Service Shop. Almost got my yard done now as 7,000 sq ft of Zoysia El Toro was spayed on yesterday! Gotta finish some sprinkler piping and electrical lines in trenches and then fill and level. Then more Hydroseeding.

Glad you are back up and running, must be a small dealer if they didn't stock lift ram seals. 4 in 1 bucket hoses I'm not surprised, but they are easy to get made by a hydraulic shop.

Tire bead coming loose: I've so far been able to reseat tires by putting a ratchet strap around the tire and compressing the tire until the bead finally seats against the rim and will hold air. Takes some fiddling, rotating tire around the rim, etc. Once it takes air, there's a bit of a judgement call about when to release the strap, ya don't wanna put so much air into the tire that it breaks the strap. This worked for me even with the 12" L5 Brute tire, which is way more tire than I'm used to for sure. Obviously, this will only work if the tire is still on the rim. :) ---Bobbie G
