Hi, New guy here. I recently purchased an 87 Gehl 3510 with a Ford 4 cyl. VSG 411 engine. The problem I have is the carb. It has a variable venturi carb that floods the engine with gas. I have found out that parts are not available for the carb and nobody wants to work on that style carb. I'm thinking I'm not the first guy that needed to find a replacement for it. I have the original manuals that show a second carb...a single barrel downdraft model. It doesn't give much info in the manual. Has anyone found a replacement carb or does anyone have an original downdraft style carb that they would be willing to sell? Thanks, Chuck

Have you tried opening it up and cleaning everything out? You don't always need a kit to repair them.
Have you checked Ebay?

I have had it apart to clean it. It was obvious that it had been apart recently. I did some checking around and was able to get in touch with the previous owner (I bought it from a guy who bought it to do a small amount of work on his property and then sell it). The previous owner had the engine completely rebuilt about 300 hrs. ago. During the rebuild they didn't address the carb. He said that as he continued to use it the carb started acting up and he took it to a repair shop to have it fixed. I talked with the owner of the shop. He told me that he had it apart and couldn't do anything with it short of changing it. He did a little research and didn't come up with a replacement. So that's where I'm at. I need to find the right size carb and probably make an adapter plate to mount it to the intake manifold and make the governor linkage work. I know these engines were used in a lot of different machines and I was hoping to come up with something used that would at least fit the original intake. Another option would be to switch over to propane, but I'm not ready to do that yet. Thanks, Chuck

I'd have thought you could get a car carb of the correct size and make it work. The linkages could be an issue, but i'd like to think it could be done.
If your engine is say 1.5 litre, and the carb comes off a car that has a 1.5 litre engine, i can't see why it couldn't be made to work with some thought.

Antfarmer, I called tractorpartsasap and they told me they didn't have anything. They did have a 3510 they were parting out but it didn''t have a carb on it. Did you talk to someone there that said they had a carb? Thanks, Chuck

I'm not having any luck finding a carb for it on the website. What did you search under? Thanks, Chuck
OK, He's emailing me a pic of the carb now. He says it's a Zenith carb. That's what I have been told was used as a replacement for the one I have, so I'm hopeful. I really appreciate the info. Thanks, Chuck

Not sure how I got there puter stupid but here it is all states ag parts phone 877-530-4430
Got the pics of the carb. The challenge is going to be the governor linkage. The throttle is on the opposite side on the Zenith carb. I have the manual showing the different configurations so I should be able to come up with something that works. Thanks for the lead. Chuck

Yes, They only have one carb for the Ford engine. The Zenith. I ordered it and received it yesterday. I have to make an adapter plate to mount it to the intake. That's not a big problem. The governor linkage will be a little more challenging. Like I said, the throttle linkage is on the back side of this carb and the original carb was on the front side.

I received the carb and got it mounted. I haven't run it very much but it seems to work well. It cured my flooding problem. I had to change the governor linkage and I may have to tweak that a little but for now I have the no-load rpm set. The motor runs real smooth.
