The left side seems to shudder at times when going forward or backward and cause the skid steer to bounce around. A local mechanic verified the chain drive and it seems OK, he suspects the pump is weak but has not verified. He is not sure enough where he wants me to spend $1800 on a rebuilt pump. There are metallic pieces in the hydraulic fluid. Are there other things I should check?

STAT more than likely means hydrostat.
This 843 has three pumps in a row driven by the engine. First is left, then right, then bucket. The right side works fine, the left has the shudder problem. If there was a problem with the drive to the first pump it would effect them all.
