My excavator is throwing code 27-06. The aux hydraulics activate just fine. When I clamp the thumb it works perfect, when I try to retract the thumb back it throws the code. I haven't checked anything yet cause it was dark when I stopped working last night. Anybody got any ideas? My manual doesn't show this particular code.

27-06 front rod pwm short to ground
I just checked it and it worked for a second then stopped again. Ill have to try next week! Thanks For the reply. ANy ideas where to look for short to ground? Would it mean the module that activates that is going to ground. Bad Module?

Talked to my dealer today they were helpful. Service guy said it was most likely the thumb switch in the joystick handle. Im gonna see if I can replace the switch and not the whole handle if it checks to be bad. Anyone had any dealing with a bad switch or know if it can be changed? Or do I have to change the complete joystick? I am working at the station today so I couldn't check it till tomo.

left hand switches should be same. myself would rather have grapple on left. should be a simple matter of isiolating wires extend them and move to left pwm switch. . have not done it . would intresred in results. and of corse it all hangs on price of new RH handle if its 70 bucks yea fix it . I suspect that wont be the case.

I actually called the dealer today and the RH handle is just 207.00 for the top section, which I didn't think was that bad. 511.00 for the complete handle. I do have good news though. I cranked my excavator and was gonna try just moving the switch a little and not bottoming it out. It actually works now. I don't know why or how but it works perfect. I can't make it mess up!! I'm hoping a solenoid was just stuck but I'm betting it will mess up again, so y'all stay tuned!!

Ok folks here we go its stopped working today and besides one intermittent time it has worked for multiple tries. I managed to find out (i think) the module/solenoid block is located inside the side cover it has the bulb on it that looks like a toilet float. My question is how do I go about finding out which module/solenoid is bad. I actually talked to mechanic today he said most likely that it was a solenoid going to ground. He said without some research he couldn't tell for sure. There are 5 solenoids on this block just curios if anyone can tell me how to find out which one controls the unclamp for the thumb. I may just have to remove the floor pan and trace wires. Thanks

Well I guess I could….stay tuned. I gotta go play firefighter today but Ill be home tomo and will see about swapping them around. I don't see why it won't work. Thanks antfarmer2 I guess I may have thought about that but hadn't as of yet. I was looking at it yesterday and it looks as if Bobcat made all the lines long enough and all are flexible so the two solenoid blocks are removable with two bolts!!!! Looks like they just fold out so you can get to the solenoids. I was thoroughly surprised at that. Not just Bobcat but rarely does manufacturers think about stuff like that. Ill let y'all know what happens!! Thanks

Ok I resolved to not leave you guys hanging when I ask of help….. so here goes! I went to the dealer today and they were gracious enough to give me a break down of the solenoid block and told me which two controlled the auxiliary functions of the thumb. For reference its the 3rd and the 4th one counting from the bulb end of the solenoid block. Antfarmer2 I used your advice and changed it up a little. I unplugged the wires and switched them that seemed a little easier than the swapping solenoids. I switch them around and narrowed it down to the 4th. Anyway I remove solenoid and checked the ohms and it was a dead short just like putting the meter contacts together. The other reads clear. Just for kicks I put the other one on that valve and my thumb will release!! The dealer ordered me one today. Its gonna cost $51.00, I sure glad I didn't bother hauling it there and letting them fix it. It wouldn't have cost that much really just the aggravation of hauling it and picking it up. Thanks to all the input from you guys and me asking a few more questions I was able to figure it out. I guess thats what we are here for… right. Thanks Again!

Does the valve that controls the thumb have a way to adjust the pressure? My 01 337 has, I lowered the pressure so when clamping on stones (anything) I can curl the bucket, keeping pressure on the thumb. It helps when stacking stones, and picking up things.

Im not real sure. Ill have to check on this. Im sure some of these professionals on here can tell me. I am able to curl bucket and release thumb at the same time, but it would be nice if this was kinda automatic. I do this when holding logs for fire wood. I curl my grapple to make a cradle to hold logs. It seems more secure to me.
