I'm trying to get the skidsteer ready for winter and I was hoping for some advise. We recently replaced the engine oil and filter, fuel filter, and we check the fluids and grease regularly. The machine has 1500 total hours and has not been abused. I heard I should check the drive chain but I'm not sure how often and also how to do it. Any maintenance advise is greatly appreciated. The shop is backed up and I can't risk loosing the machine for an extended period of time if it snows.

I just replaced my chains and they were not that bad it had over 4000 hours on it with hard use but I was doing bearings and seals and did not want to put the old ones back on

Do you have any manuals for it? To check for chain slack or wear jack all wheels off the ground and rock the wheels back and forth. On the older ones the axles could be moved to take up slack by loosening the bolts holding them in place. I would not think you would have to inspect in depth unless there was a unusual amount of slack.

No manual yet. A friend said he would make a copy but so far no luck. I'll go ahead and get the thing off the ground, release the parking brake and see if I get any slop. Is there any adjustment on the chain or do you just keep an eye on it? I'm assuming the hydraulic fluid should be good if its clean and topped off.

Yours may be different but on my 665 you loosen the axle hub bolts and move the axle to take up slack in the chain. A 2008 you should have gotten owners manual with it? Is there a pocket behing the seat back with it in it?

We are the 2nd owner and the manual wasn't included.
