I don't think it would be worth the trouble. I'd first find out where the leak is. Could be as simple as a leaking seal around the fuel sender, rubbed threw breather hose or a loose clamp on the filler hose. If the tank is cracked on top and you can get to it, I have had luck with tank patch kits.

My thoughts exactly. Check the fuel lines and filler tube. Even the breather tube from the tank to the fill spout. You may get lucky and it not be the tank at all.
Removing the enging and pump is not a huge job. You weld up a lifting jig and it comes right out. Helpers make it so much easier though.
I was looking at it last night thinking what sort of lifting thing I could make to get that engine out as well ? there is not a lot of room in there so to get a good look at it I thought the engine out would be better.......I will definitely check out all the things you have mentioned and maybe its just an easy fix, I just bought the thing recently and the former owner told me the engine had been out to replace the sending unit and after that the tank started leaking so obviously there is a issue with something there.....I cant say enough about all the good people on this forum ! thanks

They work a lot better than you may think. I built one a few years back, you can do the remove/replace on your own with one, but a helper is good to line up the engine mounts.
The lifting bracket is not worth the time. I haven't used it years. I use a cherry picker to pull engines and hook the chain real tight.
engine and pump come out as one unit ?
Easiest to pull the whole she bang. Just pulling the engine is a pain. A lot of bolts that are hard to get at just pulling the engine.

Update to this thread........I have decided to leave the engine pull till spring and just run with half a tank of fuel then its alright, I just ran out of time with everything, had to replace the heater motor and it was slow in getting here plus electrical problems just from corrosion....but its warm inside the cab now ! Thanks again to all who gave me very good advice on this issue
