Hey guys, I just registered (been lurking for a while) and know you guys can help me out. I've already printed off a few different threads that pertain to me so the few questions i have are more or less me clarifying what has been said. First off, I'm in the middle of tearing apart an old 720 with the vh4d wisconsin engine. The reason i'm tearing into it is because the flywheel shroud that the starter mounts to has rusted and given way. (in fact, the starter was held up by a brick for the last year or so lol) Either way, I pulled the motor to get to the schroud so that it can be welded back together, but i'm having a heck of a time getting the flywheel off to get the shroud off. --does anyone know how to take the flywheel off? is it press fit? reverse threaded? I'm kind of lost. My next question is.... My dad is the one who found it's "possibly final" resting place. Really long story short, he pushed it with another bobcat into a barn and roughly 20 yards before it got there he said the wheels broke loose and started turning. They turn freely now. From what i've read, this thing isn't supposed to be pushed or pulled anywhere, therefore --what do you suppose broke (if anything) when he was pushing it? I was praying it was a drive chain (cheap and easy fix) but I took the side cover off and everything seems to be tight and well oiled. Any help is appreciated....I've got a feeling it's a longer road ahead than I anticipated....

Not sure on that one but think it has a idler pully is the chain still tight on it now?
Yes, everything inside the side hatch is still intact and turning right. I even rocked it back and forth a little to see if the brake needed adjusting. I'm thinking I'll worry about the hydros after I get this stupid flywheel off. Honestly the reason he parked it is due to the starter so I'm really no sure if there is anything wrong with the drive system. Although everything I've read says it's not really supposed to turn easily........

WOOOO!!!!!! So I got the flywheel off today and am now working on either welding the cover back together or replacing it. Gotta love how every dang bolt needs pb blaster or wd 40????. Alright so now I suppose I've gotta focus on any drive issues. Anyone with suggestions for stuff to check before I put the motor back in and just try driving? I'd like to know of a problem before I reassemble it, I'm just not sure what else to check out. Like I said, all gears and chains in the side cases are almost imaculate????

Well, that I'm not too sure of. The sides both have oil, looks like just motor oil, which I read is just fine for these. As far as the hydraulics themselves, alls I can say is there was fluid coming out of the radiator (cooler) when I took it off to get to the motor. Is there a dipstick or maybe A fill plug to check like there is on the sides?
