Out of the blue, my mustang 940 just lost total drive movement on the right side only. It was almost instant. I coulda swore I heard some minor mechanical/hydraulic type noise just minutes before, but it could have been anything. I checked the main links and mechanical connections and couldn't find any breakage or disconnects, etc. I've never had that happen EVER, does anyone know what else I can check. I didn't think it could be electronic being a machine this old has all manual stuff. There is NO grinding sound or any noise of mechanical movement in the lower area, so it doesn't seem like a broken sprocket or something. If the chain came off, would it not make some kind of noise when you try to go back and forward? Any help or advice would be great ASAP. i was in middle of clearing a driveway to get it repaired and the machine is in the middle of the way. thanks . I use regular handles (might have been converted from T-tandle long time ago.)

Try swapping the drive motors and see if the problem follows
I need to try that out. I'm still learning bout this machine, I do have full owners and service manual, so i'll check that out. Are they the ones that have little plastic red caps at the end of one side and the two wire terminals sticking out of the top of the cylinder top part?

Turned out to be worn sprocket bearing on front right sprocket gear. Actually, the sprocket that gets the power from the drive gear. The bearings had gotten loose enough that the chain binded/broke a link and fell off. Thanks for ur suggestion though. Seems like these bearings go out often on this particular machine. This is second time this has happened, I think the other side broke last time and I had to even replace the sprocket as well that time.

Well, not quite of woods yet. got the bearings in finally, but trying to see if I want to tackle the job or get someone, do those bearings races need to be pressed by a machine or can they be done by basic tools onsite like the bearings for trailers etc?

On mine I just got the bearing race set tool from autozone gave them 20 buck dep and got it back when I returned it the outside was easy just taped it in the inside had no swing room so I used my ten ton porta power with my tiny ram and some blocks to get the axle out used two bottle jacks

Sounds creative, Not sure if its just me going to do it or will hire a another skid steer mechanic to pitch in. I'll keep your technique in mind just in case he don't have a clue. thanks

Ran into some trouble getting the sprocket off due to restriction from chain and made mistake of hiring skid steer mechanic thats not familiar with Mustang, so he ended up taking the Idler sprocket assembly out the hard way, trying to loosen the bolt all the way out while it was still in the chain well and in the process loosening n damaging the bearings and all> so now i've ordered new bearings for idler sprocket and was wondering does the chain need to be taken loose(remove link) in order to be able to put everything back properly or can we put the cluster(big)sprocket back and then the Idler sprocket assembly back in place without messing with the chain? And if so, which one should go back in first? My service manual isn't all that clear in regards to these particular sprocket removal and replacement. Just wanted to see your opinion or pointers. thanks
