Need to know if anybody knows what type and amount of fluid goes in the resivoir for the chain drives. on a 4615 Gehl skid steer. They are full of water now and I think it would probably be 90 weight or Hydrolic fluid 303 or equiv.

Check to see if you have drains that are blocked. I know nothing about your machine but have seen lots of other posts on this. Search here and maybe some will come up but if I remember right they don't have oil in them.

Does this help? It came up on a search for "chain case oil" in this forum.
Jerry the drains have 1/4 " pipe threaded plugs in them and there is a inverted fenderwell type of resevoir under both chains. there has been oil in them but one side had only water in it because the top plate was bent & not sealing. You may be right I think the other side has some type of oil in it but I didnot check to see what it was. Thanks for the response I will check the other side to see if I can determine what type if any it has in it. Thanks again.

I tried to look it up no luck but did find bearings and oil seals for it so it does take oil something is better than nothing I would go with the thicker oil your seals are most likely worn

My 4610 operator's manual tells to use "1 gallon of fresh 10W40 oil for each chain case", but don't overthink it too much. It is a chain case, so any engine or gear oil will work. Antfarmer has a point: try to use something heavier since the oil seals are most likely worn, and they are going to sweat/leak if you use lighter oil or hydraulic fluid.
