Recently picked up an 863 and a 753 as projects. Had the 753 for a week now, put a few hours on it at night with lights on, and now it doesn't seem to be charging. Battery light has come on a few times. Can anyone recommend a good place to buy a new alternator? most places online carry the older deco style intended for the 743 and earlier 753's. Whats the best way to change it as well? yank the muffler?

First off check the fuse labled Alt and Kits. This fuse protects the alternator ignitor circuit as well as any factory add on like wipers. If the machine has the 7 pin harness, if it smashed like they always are, it can blow that fuse too. If that proves good or a new fuse doesn't solve your problem, the alternator isn't hard to change. Flip the cab and pull it out that way. I can change one in about 20 minutes. One from bobcat is about $190 new, don't get the reman, they are junk. If you have a alternator/ starter rebuild shop, you may be get one for around $140. One thing I have seen twice. Guys change the starter and then it doesn't charge. Their either didn't hook up the cable between the starter and the alternator, or hooked it to the wrong lug of the starter.

Sorry for the lack of updates, the alt kits fuse was definetly blown. I replaced it and it was charging again. I will check for a rubbed through wire in the auxillary electrical harness. Thanks again.
