Hello all, newer to forum but have always been on this site and looked for some time.I just got a 642b recently and since it was in pieces when I got it iam putting together and having a hell of a time trying to get basic tune parts,ect...Nothing seems to cross from oem numbers, like plugs, wires, cap rotor, thermostat, ect...All the dealer stuff is strickly bobcat and cant seem to cross anything.I have seen that sum use the 80's dodge colt as a look up guide for stuff and wondering if thats what I should do or what everyone else is doing.Im sure would probably work just wana see what you all think. Maybe its in here "forum" somewhere but I cant seem to figure out how to search yet since every forum is set up different.Ive been looking for sum time now but idk. Any help would be most appreiciated. Thanks

A B series used a Mitsubishi industrial industrial engine that I'm pretty sure it also was used in many forklifts of the era. Going aftermarket is a better route in this case. Bobcat only offers points for those where as any parts store worth a damn can get you retrofit electronic ignition. The spark plugs from bobcat are autolites if I recall. Find the exact model of the engine and use that for parts, not the bobcat.

It is the Mitsubishi 4G32 engine but hard to find exact engine to use for parts when like u said this and sum fork lifts are all that use it, in the industrial part of it anyways. Dodge colt is similair but not sure. I think only differences are block mounting/starter ect but engine same? I also want to convert to electronic ign but parts stores have no clue but I will keep trying.

I have a 742B with the Mitsubishi 4G32 engine and I put in an electronic ignition. It is a PERTONIX 1941 You will probably want to change out the coil with a Pertronix Flame Thrower 3 OHM 40511 coil also, it goes with the ignition and allows you to get rid of the ceramic resistor. You can find both on Amazon.com. A word of caution...Make sure that your starter is wired correctly. Mine was not, so when I removed the ceramic resistor the starter would fire on the first click of the key (accessory). Very frustrating trying to figure that one out. Also, the part that replaces the points needs to have the air gap adjusted to .030". I had to file the screw hole in the new part to be able to get the proper gap, not something you should have to do with a new part but as long as you have a small enough file or a Dremel tool it's an easy fix. The plugs are Autolite 64. Make sure you gap them properly as they will not be gapped properly out of the box. The cap was pretty reasonable from the Bobcat dealer, I don't have a cross reference for that. The Dodge colt has similar parts but they do change from model year to model year. Hope this helps.

My Borg Warner catalog shows the cap as part number C563 and the rotor as C577 for the Mitsubishi 4G series industrial engine. CARQUEST and Napa have always been able to cross the Borg Warner numbers for me.

I did some more looking and looks like by my distributor # the pertronix ignitor for mine would be the 1943 but will call and confirm.
