hi, i have been reading the forums for some time but just registered. im having a problem with my friends 642. yesterday after using it to hold up a large tree so i could cut it the bucket decided to stop tilting back. it will tilt down. when raising it will raise it very slowly if i have the pedal in a certain position but it will only go about 5' up when empty. to lower it i have to jam the pedal foward and when it drops i have to tap the pedal back to the middle. this is not normal for this machine. there is nothing blocking the pedals or the linkage for them. it has plenty of hydraulic fluid, thats what she uses but i have read on here that 10w-40 is recommended. i believe it has been quite awhile since the fluid and filter have been changed on it, but it gets very little use. i dont have a manual of any type for it, does anyone know of a good site to purchase a quality downloaded manual? i know alot about car, truck, boat motor repair but my knowledge of bobcats and hydraulics is very very limited. because i live in the boondocks the closest repair shop is over an hour a way so i would like to try some things to see if i can fix it myself. i have a ton of work to do yet because of a huge storm that hit a few days ago. i would appreciate some ideas as where to start, i guess the first thing is a manual so i will at least know the name of the parts when you tell me to try something. thanks, tom

well i got in figured out. ive never used a bobcat this small or old before and it appears that when i got in it i hit the right stick over and activated the aux hydraulics. never seen one that worked like that before lol. i had called smith skidloaders in rice, mn to find out about a hydraulic pump just in case, he sells a ton of used bobcat parts and he told me what i did. talk about feeling stupid lol.

Don't feel stupid, it is a very common mostake.
Without a 4 in 1 bucket, you can't really tell if it is on or off.
