Bobcat 753 steering slow on right side

I got a used Bobcat 753 with low hours a few months back. The right side steering is slower both forward and backwards. Sometimes it kind of hesitates and then jumps when it finally kicks in. Not as bad when you have it throttled up. Would this be a linkage adjustment or more likely a motor or valve? The jerking makes me think of valve but I haven't really worked on them before so any help is appreciated.

You can look at the linkage to see if it has a lot of play. I wouldn't think its a adjustment problem since you say its the same forward and reverse.
Not sure if your machine has case drain filters but if it does the right side could be clogged. Need to know the serial number to see if it has them.
If the problem isn't in the linkage or a case drain filter the next step would be to swap the drive motors from one side to the other and see if the problem follows the motor.
If it doesn't follow the motor then the problem is likely in the hydrostatic pump.

Thanks for the reply. Its a C series. serial number on plate in the back is 512718622. I believe it does have a filter underneath the hydro reservoir. is that what you are referring to? I only noticed one on the right side but I never really looked for one on the left side too. I'll have to take look.

Yes it has one for the left side too. Bad thing about the design is you really need to drain the hydraulic oil to check the filters or you'll have a big mess. You can take the hose off the left side one and drain the reservoir out thru that hose.

Thanks OldMachinist. I drained the fluid and took the right filter off. It looks brand new. The linkage looks pretty good too. The right slide might have a little bit more play in it but not much. I guess I'll try swapping the drive motors. I downloaded a service manual for it but its unfortunately not very high quality. pictures are really fuzzy. Looks pretty straight forward, 3 hoses and 4 bolts. It says to remove the control panel though, but I just going by the pictures in the manually I don't see why. Do you know if that is really needed?

I don't think you can get to the hoses on the motor without removing the control panel(sheet metal that the steering arms go thru).

so I started to tear into the drive motors. Got the control panel off and washed things off. It sure doesn't looks like the drive motors will swap from one side to the other and still have hosts and such hook up properly. Am I missing something? Thanks, Tom

Motors are both the same. The fittings may need to swapped or just loosened and repositioned.

Well I got them swapped and now the left side is being slow. I guess that motor is getting weak. I had a feeling when I started to tear into it that was it because the good one is an after mark (Char Lynn) and the weak one is a bobcat. Any recommendations on where to get a new one at decent price? Or should I see if I can rebuild the old one? appreciate all the input.

The CharLynn should have a metal tag with a part number like 137-1001-002. You can do a search for the number on your motor or you can contact Loader Parts Source to see what they get for a rebuild.

I had issues like this, the Orings were like powder. $5 for two sets and both motors ran like new.
You may not need a full seal kit that will run you quite a bit. Get it apart and work out what is needed.

thanks, where did you get the Orings? I ended up ordering a new Char Lynn from loaderpartssource but it didn't come with the large Oring/seal and doing a quick search nothing else pulls up. I guess I could call the bobcat dealer.

this is what is reffered too as a hi to low leak. do em both seal kit about 35 bucks. rember these motors are timed. I have found that if you follow proucdere in manual . youll jack it up . yes find big port to big opening but trick is. have unit off ground and safely supported. bungee both sticks forward. remove fuel shut off wiring and crank unit over. it seems that the intil oil flow is the way they go. if one turns backwards swap the hoses.{BUY THE WAY GUYS IF ANYBODY HAS A BETTER EXPLATION OF THIS PLEASE POST IT } THE S/M IS THE SAME FOR BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT MOTORS, WHICH MAKES NO SENSE TO ME. BIG PORT TO BIG OPENENING. ok that I understand, should be cut and dry. but ive had hundreds of these turn backwards and had to swap hoses. not so easy in some cases, I KNOW SOME HYD HEAD OUT THERE HAS THE ANSWER?

I got the Orings from my local hydraulic seal shop.
