Folks, For those who don't want to pay Bobcat an order of magnitude higher price, and want to rebuild the carb on their Mitsubishi 4G32 based 642B/742B with the Minuki-Solex 2BBL carb (called a MI-SL-2 series) (that has one throat blocked off) here is a pointer: One kit that has most of the parts you need appears to be for the 76-77 (71-77?) or so Plymouth Arrow 1.6L or the Dodge Colt. The carb for those cars is called a Mikuni Solex 28-32DID Early, & 28-32 DIDTA + 30-32 DIDTA Late. You can find a listing of whats in the kit by looking at the Walker Carburetor catalog, it is Kit # 15581B. See: https://buy.walkerproducts.com/carburetor/components/mikuni/mikuni-15581b-carburetor-components.html You get the enrichment diaphragm, the pump diaphragm, the float bowl gasket, and needle seat (have not tested this part yet), and a bunch of tiny O rings and tiny gaskets which should be most of what you need. The throttle body gasket (need 2) is not there, but is not critical. (they use a thick version, different from Bobcat one). These kits seem to go for about $20 on ebay. Just thought people would like to know. If anyone knows of an exact kit, please reply with its reference here. T.

Thanks for sharing this information, i'm sure others will appreciate it!
A lot of the parts used on these engines are available places other than the dealer, just finding them can be an issue.

I tied the above and the needle/seat was not close. My dealer order a carb kit for me and for $230 and an envelope came with 3 gaskets. Then they ordered a "valve" for $150 and I got a needle/seat that I could see through the plastic it was not anywhere close. Then sent photos to Bobcat to show them what they installed in my machine. I then went to a Carb/Fuel Inj. shop and they gave me several needle/seats to try, no charge as they were horrified at Bobcat's $ and lack of support. Finally, I was able on one of the seats to grind the 9mm nut on the seat down a couple of mm for clearance and bend the tab on the float and using the bowl site glass (thankyou Solex) as a guide get the float level right and get the machine running. Very sorry to say I lost track of the part numbers along the way.

The good thing is you got it fixed in the end.
Sadly bobcat parts guys generally have no idea, they just sell the parts, they have no real world experience installing them.

To rebuild your carb you need two kits from your local parts store. The first kit is 10454b parts master, it has the the correct top gasket and two o rings for the pri pilot jet and the other for fuel cut-off. the other kit is 10702a parts master, for needle and seat and all other parts needed. Hope this helps Kevin

In regards to bobcat's prices on this stuff. 40 series has been out of production for close to 25 years. Very few things interchange with newer models so you are basically buying old stock off the shelf. As fewer kits are left, the price goes up. Also a lot of the suppliers for the parts no longer make them either. The Hoof governor is a prime example of that. Try buying parts for a 25 year old Chevy at the dealer.

frogspit I was looking and cannot find your part listed part numbers online. Do you know the cross reference for these? If I am correct I believe the 10454b cross reference to a Walker #15581B Carb. kit and the 10702a cross reference to Walker #15779A Carb. kit. These 2 kits have some duplicated parts in them so do you really need both kits and or are these the same kits you listed just a different manufacturer? Justin

Just Ordered, I am an old schooler, only buy old stuff that I can fix. Just ordered both kits from Amazon at the end of April 2023.

Cost was

Close to $100.

The other thought was get a Chinese Carb and rat it for parts/ rubbers/ gaskets???? Thoughts? as the part will be cheap cast rip offs but the failure bits might work????

Keep you posted on the rebuild
