Could anyone help me with the operation of the intake heaters in a NH L785 with intake heaters. What I want to know is how these are supposed to operate. I understand that they run off a solenoid but currently power only goes to them under starting operation (while the starter is being turned over). This makes no sense to me. I would assume that they should operate the same as a glow plug in a pickup. IE. turn the key on and wait for 10 or so seconds until they heat up, then turn the engine over. I would also assume that they should run for a while until the engine warms up. Could someone please educate me on how these should operate? and if they are operating incorrectly - what my problem might be? Thanks for the help, Dylan

Your machine is operating correctly. I have heard of people wiring them up so that they can turn the heater on prior to cranking the engine. The heater only coming on when you crank the engine which makes the machine hard to start in cold weather. You have to really crank and crank before the engine will fire.
