Does anyone have any idea how many gph,gpm would a lift pump produce for a 50-60 hp diesel ?I'm thinking of installing a electric pump to help solve a "losing prime issue". If anyone has installed a electric how did you pick it and which did you use? Thx Randy

You have a bad check ball in the tank cracked pick up tube or loose or cracked fuel or return line

They really don't need THAT much fuel flow, any inline fuel pump should do the job, you only need about 5 psi of pressure too.

That looks like to be right Tazza because from some other articles I've read guys are using some basic fuel pumps on 200 - 300hp diesel trucks with no issues. I did a check on all the lines and fittings, everything there seemed good. Couldn't inspect the fuel tank check valve because the lines disappear back between the lift arm and the lift arm cylinder. The only spot where I found and signs of leakage is at the injection pump. I tried tightening the fittings for the in and return but it is really difficult will the engine is in the skid. Also the fittings for the lines going to the injectors look wet, but they were all tight. One of them I couldn't get a wrench on. So I installed a inline filter which has a hand primer pump on it before the mech lift pump and pressured the system before starting with it. I needed to pump 60 - 70 strokes to feel the system firm up but the starting was better. It would catch after a couple cranks but still seems like it not getting enough fuel, it would be a little rough and you would have to back down the hand throttle to get it to smooth out. The fellow I bought it from said he always had the hand throttle wide open when starting, but I don't think that makes any difference when starting, should it? Also the results are better but still not the way you would like the skid to start up. Any suggestions? Thx Randy

The lines to the injectors should be dry, but i can't see it being the main cause of your starting issue.
I'd start by hooking up an external fuel tank, gett a jug of fuel and run a line to it to eliminate the fuel tank and any possible cracks or blockages in the line.
