I havent been using my ASV MD70 for alot of the winter since it is so hard to start and it was so cold here. Today it was 14c and the loader still wont start. Last summer it started almost instantly. When cranking it has some white smoke but doesnt fire. I was suspecting air in the fuel system as the rubber fuel line from the tank was cracking. That is now replaced and the system was bleed out. I did manage to get the loader to start that day (last week) but while firing it would blow black smoke until finally it kept running (took many minutes of firing). I ran it around for about 15 minutes and shut it off. The next day it wouldnt start (little bit of white smoke). Today I tried to rebleed out the fuel system and had fuel to all injectors. 5 minutes later nothing to #1. In the winter I did do a service and replaced the fuel filter and alot of dirt was in it. Is it possible there is a screen somewhere I am missing? Im not sure what else to check. Ran so good last year. Engine is an Isuzu 4JB1. I am wondering if the injector pump is broken...pulled #1 injector to see how it sprayed and never could get flow out of the inj pump to the injector.

Have you made sure the preheat system is working? It should have glow plugs or grid heater in the intake.

Ill soak the injectors tonight and I think I do have that very same gun oil.... I ohmed the glow plugs a few months back and they were all good. While Im in there ill pull them and make sure they are all glowing properly. I should probably do compression check while in there also. Just need to go buy a tester.

Also check you have power to the glow plugs.
I wouldn't rush into the compression check just yet, if it started and ran fine in summer i'd like to think it is still good and just needs the pre-heat system working on.
White smoke means you are getting fuel, but not enough heat to get it to ignite.

Did a little looking around today and found a loose fitting (just below where the injector tubing comes off the pump). Rebleed the system again. Tightened up a hose fitting and it was running great. That was until I shut it down to disconnect my grapple bucket. then the starter seized up. Got a new one coming tomorrow.

It is always something lol but make sure your aux hydro is not stuck on for your grapple and loaded up your hydro keeping your starter from being able to start

Ya. That was actually one of the first things i checked. Got the new starter in and the asv did start after some cranking. Started white smoke then black the. Finally took off. Got a good 3 hours hard work pushing clay and spreading gravel before i slid off a hill edge. Now waiting for a tow truck or my neighbour and his mini exc. Diff topic. Is it normal to have to shut down to disconnect the aux lines? I usually do then have to cycle the lever or i cant get the couplers off.

If it is on a bad angle don't start it till you take the glow plugs or injectors out and spin it to get the oil out of the cylinders or you will hydro lock it and bend bad things

Take a pic show and tell lol
well its not to steep of an angle. maybe 30 degrees sideways. The worst part is the 100 feet to the bottom and its a bit steeper at the bottom. I have a picture but it doesnt show the angle very well. Looks like in sitting in the dirt. Maybe when it dries up or worst case I have a D3 coming in a month to do some work.

I think the MD 70 Has an Isuzu engine about the same as our2810 . The the glow plugs have to work for them to start . If our 2810 sit in the shop in the winter at 55 degrees it needs a little GPS or more cranking . Gearbox

thanks It is an Isuzu engine 2.8l i think. I am suspecting a glow plug issue. Im bringing a multimeter out next time I go see the loader and check the voltage to the plugs. I pulled one a while back and it did glow decently. The front 2 are kind of hard to get to.

I found that even one bad glow plug will make it much harder to start.

They are a very simple GP system . See if your controler clicks when you hit the switch . if it clicks go to the back GP and check power and work forward I use a 12 volt battery charger with a ammeter ground then touch the GP with + and watch the meter it will spike then fall back if good if bad nothing . Hope this helps Gearbox

Got the loader rescued from the hillside. my glow plugs are not even that complicated. They are left turn and hold on key. Wire from key goes direct to glowplug rail. All plugs in parallel. Was hard to start today. Going to pull glow plugs when i have time. Need to pull starter. Just installed and it grinds and eventually grabs. Looks identical to old one. Going to pull and measure...

If they are that hard to replace I would take a easy one out take it to NAPA to match up and replace all so they wear evan

And one bad or loose conection can do it
I looked them up and they are only around $70 for a new set. They arent terrible to change just a tedious job taking the entire hood/cover off. I have more work under there lined up so maybe next week. Thanks
