I had starting troubles. the voltage on the display was low. I replaced the 7 year-old battery, then instead of fixing the problem, as expected, the voltage display still indicated low voltage ( about 5.7) and then it would not even turn over just clicks once when you turn the key. so is this a starter problem or some other electronic problem?

Not trying to be smart but have you load tested the new battery? I have bought new ones that were bad. Otherwise start by removing and cleaning both ends of the cables especially the grounds. There may be more than one ground.

You have a early production machine which used an instrument panel outlined in silver stripping. On these machine when you sat in the seat the instrument panel will show @ 5.2 volts...............As you sit in the seat watch the instrument panel. It should light all the lights as you sit in the seat. After it goes through a self check the parking brake light and seat belt light should be the only lights on. Fasten the seat belt and the seat belt light should go out.........Check this first and post your results and we will then go to the next step.

Ok, I am totally confused as to what just happened. I read the post, went out to the loader, and sat in the seat. watched what happened. It first did nothing. then I checked and found that I left the service switch on. turned that back to run, sat in the seat and the display lit up, did it's thing and at the end only the 5.2 battery display was left. buckled the seat belt turned on the key, let it count down the glow plugs and turned the key. to my surprise it started! now I'm trying to figure out why it would not start before....... The only thing I can think of was that I may have buckled the seat belt before it finished diagnostics. but I had tried both with and without the service switch on. neither way worked at all. it has been several days since I had tried to start it. I was beginning to think the starter had failed.
