Hello folks, I need to remove the bucket on a 440B bobcat, So far I have disconnected the hydraulic piston and removed two bolts which seem to be retainers for the bucket pivot. Can someone please explain what is done next to detach the bucket from the lift arms. Thanks for any help. John

Doesn't it have a bob tach on it? It is a plate attached to the back of the bucket and also attached to the lift arms and tilt cylinder. There will be two levers on the back of the plate, lift them and the bucket can be freed from the machine.

This assumes that you do not have a bobtach:
Next, you need to remove the 2 grease fittings at the lower boom pivots. They will be screwed into the bucket pin housings. This will allow excess grease to escape when you drive the pins in to the housings.
To drive the pins in, I use bolts that are 1"-2" longer than the pin retaning bolts that you just removed. Screw the longer bolts in as far as they will go, but do not tighten them; the head should be sitting proud of the boom arm. Then strike the head of the bolt with a heavy hammer to break the pin free from its taper. I like to use a short handled sledge hammer, and give them one firm strike.
Push the pins deep into the housings on the bucket, to ensure the tapers are clear of the boom arms, then remove the bolts. The bucket should now be free of the machine.
Hope this makes sense!!

As the 440b was the stripped down, entry level Bobcat, not having a bobtach is not surprising, as they were optional.
The bobtachs fitted to the 440b were fitted with one locking lever, centrally mounted on top.

Thanks a lot for the quick answers I really appreciate it you two.. SkidRoe Yes I have the simple pivot in the socket version. I did not think of removing the grease fittings; but of course logical. great forum I would have been at it for days and not think of releasing the grease. Those two longer bolts will form part of the bobcat special tools then.. Going back at it right now, jobsite about 4 miles away. Thanks again and best regards John..

Well that's a surprise. I assumed that all the later machines had the bob-tach. Even the 610 I had did. It was a one lever one but worked quite well. I wonder if one of them could be fitted to the 440.

My 440b does have the old, small version bobtach that was used from the M371 up to the 453. The 463 and S70, as well as the MT5X machines, use a cut down version of the standard bobtach. The profile is the same, the locking pins are on the same centres, but it is 35" wide instead of 44".
The 463/S70 bobtach will not directly fit on a pre-463 machine, as the boom design has also changed.
No company I can find sells attachments with the pre-463 bobtach, I have had to fabicate all of my mounts for my 440b. I also built an adapter plate to fit standard bobtach attachments to my 440b. I use it with my auger:

If you were to add a bobtach to your machine, I would buy a mount as shown in the link, cut the pin-on mount off of your bucket and weld them together.
