R-4 Tires and Poor traction issues

Just wondering how others deal with the R-4 tires and poor traction issues on skid steers? I have foam filled tires and I do run a set of chains but, I really don't like the tread pattern for traction. Doesn't seem to matter if you are pushing snow or in mud or even on grass these tires do not provide much traction unless you run chains and even then very limited. They do well on dry dirt or concrete though. Are there other tread patterns that are better? Your thoughts? Thanks
