Does anyone have any advice on buying a 2 year old skid steer at an auction house? I have been looking at a few machines that have between 3 and 4 hundred hours on them. Is that a low enough hours on them to not have any problems? Does anyone have any experience with purchasing from Mcgrew equipment auction in PA? Thanks

Very late reply, but applies to a lot of folks. Obviously, interior and exterior appearance can tell a story of care and simple use, or flagrant abuse, or lipstick on a pig. ...Beware of freshly painted pigs... Start, run, and drive... check drive line chain slop.. look where folks don't normally clean, check the air filter, check the oil (oil I've seen in a few with only 1000 hours on them have been like tar.... probably run hard never changed!) If you do a thorough 1000 hour service check point inspection and it comes out reasonable, and it operates fine, you can reasonably expect to have a good machine. Anything less diligent, and you've bought a lottery ticket that oinks... good luck.

Take your time on making a decision. A close inspection or better yet, if the seller has maintenance records. Check the hydraulic system for noises and any water ingress. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Check prices for similar machines. That's a dead give away.
