My JD 1050 flat tire issue

I have got a 2" gash within the higher sidewall of my rear 13.6 x 28 ag tire on my JD 1050. i am wondering if I will have a six ply patch place inside the tire then install a tube. The tire is presently loaded with calcium. My analysis shows that no tire service can placed on a patch on the sidewall (a liability issue ?), however I even have a neighborhood tractor dealer which will pull the tire off, put in a patch, a tube, and fill it with beet juice. This 1981 tractor is well used year-round , mostly for field mowing and lightweight logging and snow removal in winter. it's less than 900 hours on that, thus i am not putting lots of stress on that. Has anyone done this type of patch repair on the sidewall? a replacement tire can run me about $300 and labor another $300.
